Bukowski and the value of writing.
So… a few months ago my cousin gave me a bunch of his old books, and goin thru all this stuff i suddenly noticed summ romances of this author, Henry Charles Bokowski. at this point i was very curious about what he wrote, so, in a random midnight i start reading “women” and OH BOY.
Basically, “buck” (im going to call him that), decided to write 6 biographic books of himself in the persona of “hank chinaski”. women is the 4th part (yea, i started at 4th part, im dumb) of that history and adapts his 50-55 y/o, who after 5 years being a bachelor, decided to freak out with females EVERY TIME IN A NON-STOP MARATHON. I can say with no doubt that 25% of the book ITS JUST ROUGH SEX SCENES AND THINGS LIKE THAT… but okay… I finished the reading and started at the beginning, the first part, Sam on Rye, that adapts his childhood years after the 29' crisis, surrounded by poverty and disgrace. this one is way better (no sex scenes), but when you finish both books u may question yourself: “what did i learn with all that”, or:”ok, but what was the point, the moral lesson of the book”, and u notice THERE’S NOTHING OF THIS
Buck in both books (and I suppose that in the other he takes the same way) looks like he doesn't want to cause big reflections, deep meaning or be too intellectual, his writing it's like hearing a drunk guy telling his life’s histories without any filters, just that. what honestly, is kinda cool, but when u r on page 277 hearing about his 58th masturbation history… meh, might get some boring.
All that brings me to a reflection:”all that weird ass history with any deep meaning or reflection behind have some value?” my answer is sadly yes, let me explain
If you hear history it's because someone who lived through some certain event wants to share with you their experiences. It doesn't matter how stupid they are, someone wants to register this piece of life with you, and this HAS VALUE. Sometimes stories about disasters can make people going through a lot feel a little less bad and have some laughs, and for some children the same story can sound like a lesson to not make some mistakes in that “tale”. How they affect the different people is personal and for someone it will make sense. Bukowiski was very famous with the young people because he used to laugh and make humor of pretty sad events and things those teenagers used to pass through, making them feel like they not alone. did u get it?? The moral lesson here is: share your shitty life, it will make your shit feel less shitty and people who also shits can laugh at your shit! GBYE
